About this event

This exhibition features a singular body of work by the late Haida artist Jut-ke-Nay–Hazel Wilson. Created between 2005 and 2006, the series of 51 'history robes' documents pivotal episodes of Haida history from a Haida perspective. The robes depict stories ranging from pre-contact ancestors to first contact with Europeans and Wilson's own childhood experiences. By blending traditional button blanket techniques with history painting, Wilson offers a powerful narrative on colonial legacies and Haida persistence. This marks the first time nearly the entire collection is displayed publicly together.
